Mark 9:23 And Jesus said, [You say to Me], If You can do anything? [Why,] all things can be (are possible) to him who believes! AMPC
If you have ever doubted what Jesus can do you can stop doubting after looking at this true story. This actual event recorded for you and I, is meant to give us the knowing that Jesus will not only do the impossible in our lives, but He will also help us get the faith we need for the impossible.
It started with hope that Jesus was, who A Father of a demon controlled boy, thought Jesus was.
Mark 9:17 And one of the throng replied to Him, Teacher, I brought my son to You, for he has a dumb spirit. 18 And wherever it lays hold of him [so as to make him its own], it dashes him down and convulses him, and he foams [at the mouth] and grinds his teeth, and he [falls into a motionless stupor and] is wasting away. And I asked Your disciples to drive it out, and they were not able [to do it]. AMPC
Mark 9:21 And [Jesus] asked his father, How long has he had this? And he answered, From the time he was a little boy.22 And it has often thrown him both into fire and into water, intending to kill him. But if You can do anything, do have pity on us and help us.
That’s when Jesus said if I can do anything?
Mark 9:23 And Jesus said, [You say to Me], If You can do anything? [Why,] all things can be (are possible) to him who believes! AMPC
ALL things are possible for him who believes! That is when the Father fell apart and started crying and admitted to Jesus that he needed help with his weakness of faith.
Mark 9:24 At once the father of the boy gave an [eager, piercing, inarticulate] cry with tears, and he said, Lord, I believe! [Constantly] help my weakness of faith!
The man was in great agony, watching his son being tormented by the enemy and had been dealing with this from the time his son was a little boy. Jesus gave him the hope he needed when He said I can do anything if you believe! From there, the man also had to ask for help with his faith, and of course Jesus took care of that as well!
Apparently the Father of the boy had heard about Jesus and all the miracles He had been doing when he brought his son to Jesus. The man obviously already had some faith (faith comes from hearing the Word of God - Romans 10:17), to have brought his son to Jesus to begin with. Maybe he heard about all the miracles Jesus was doing. Or maybe he was there to watch the miracles, maybe he sat in on some sermons? Something happened to bring him to this place of expecting that Jesus could possibly do something for his little boy.
This man wasn't sitting around on the couch eating potatoes chips and watching tv and then at the last minute had a bright idea to bring his son to Jesus.
I want to declare to you today, this man was busy hearing. When he heard about Jesus, this was the answer he was praying for. He dropped everything to be on this mission of finding Jesus, he may have even quit his job. I don't know how it happened, but I know if it were me I would be investigating, I would be traveling, searching to find Jesus, to hear Jesus, to just be near Him. I would be desperate to know if my son had a chance. I would be crying as I witnessed others being healed knowing the same could happen for my son!
The man heard, and we don't know what that involved, how far he had to travel to hear, if he had to go back home to get his son, if he had to get a sitter while he was gone? We don't know if he had his son with him the whole time and had to take care of him at the same time he was trying to keep up with Jesus? We don't know the details and how long it took from the time he heard to the time he got his son to Jesus?
We do know that he did bring his son to the disciples who couldn't do anything. I am sure that was a disappointment, but still instead of losing hope he went to find Jesus whom he had hope in.
As soon as he got to Jesus he knew his son would be free from that demon spirit. That is what caused him to hysterically wail at that moment he heard Jesus! Just being in Jesus’ presence we know how we feel. I believe he was overtaken in faith right there in the presences of Jesus. And then to hear Jesus’ words to him he broke! The words Jesus spoke and the power illuminating from Jesus was all it took for this man to fall apart in relief of finally seeing his son set free!
The Bible tells us Jesus just came down from the holy mount and He was still glistening. That alone would move me to hysterics!
This story has all we need in it to know that Jesus can. He can do the impossible thing in our life, as He did for this Father.
What can we say we have learned from this true story? Jesus can, if we have faith. We have to get faith from hearing the Word ( Romans 10:17). We can ask Jesus to help us with our faith. Anything is possible. There is nothing Jesus can’t do.
We can bring anything to Jesus and I would like to encourage you today to go to Him in any situation and know He has your answer. Know you will have to work to get faith, meaning you will have to take the time to form your faith by hearing the Word. Hearing the Word will also help you to know Jesus because He is His Word (John 1:1). Knowing Jesus is having faith in Jesus. As in any relationship by giving Him your attention, you will have His attention and having His attention, will bring His presence in your life in the atmosphere where you are, for the completion of your faith and for your desperate situation!
God is in love with you, God Bless you!
