Did you know that ostriches don’t actually bury their heads in the sand when they are scared? What they are doing is turning their eggs they have buried in the sand. Kind of funny concept though, at least to make a statement. Mine is— what good is it going to do to bury your head or to turn away from something that needs addressing?
Likewise, why aren’t we doing our job as Christians but instead burying our heads in the sand? Turning away from confronting sin in our lives, and in the lives of those around us, and those we love?
God has been showing me that we wear His name but we’re not witnessing as His. We’re not responsive to the Holy Spirit, but ignoring Him because we’re afraid/ashamed to be a real live Christian, when we should be on a mission to proclaim the gospel.
Most times in the beginning of our walk we are excited and on fire and start out on that mission— but then the flame goes out. We stop responding to the Holy Spirit and instead ignore Him. Ignoring the Holy Spirit makes Him go away and at that we allow Satan to take over. Thus, that is exactly what occurs when we ignore Him.
Why do we ignore Him? In many instances it is because of what people think of us, which causes us to bury our heads in the sand, so to say. Silly and with no resolve but, Satan’s intent exactly. He is going to do what it takes to keep us from doing the greater works, from being the witnesses we are called to be.
Now we know that ostriches don’t actually bury their heads in the sand because they are scared, it just looks that way. What they’re really doing is caring for their babies, as we as Christian’s should be doing. Caring about our loved ones, God’s babies, caring about His children that are lost. But what we do instead is bury our heads maybe not in the sand but in other things designed by the enemy to further distract us from our initial excitement, from our mission, ultimately from being apart of God‘s plan to save the lost.
It is Satan’s intent that we take it easy and blend in on the wide path instead of learning to control the pressure of fear he puts on us on the narrow path. Unlike the wise ostrich looking after her eggs, we without knowing live in compliance with our enemy rather than opposed to him, when we run from the pressure. Because we have given into being afraid rather than staying committed to God and our mission, we have become foolish with no intentions of valuing what is important to God anymore. Now we live on the run, running from God just like Jonah, running from what God is calling us to do for Him.
Maybe today you realize that is you, you are too shy to show who you are, or what you believe. Then let me encourage you. When you stand before your Creator on that day, it will be what He thinks that will matter to you. All those opinions who’s seemed to matter to you now won’t mean anything to you then. In fact those very people who‘s opinion you valued, will also be in line to find out what God thinks of them. On that day the Judge will judge you and those who you hold as your god today.
God has gone out of His way as He does, to show me that we who call ourselves Christians are not living up to our name— His name.
We see sin in our friends and family yet we’re quiet about it. Our logic? I think I hear most people say, “That is between them and God.” If so, if our logic is correct then why are we to be witnesses? Did Jesus say —go into all the world and do what I did?
Mark 16:15 And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach and publish openly the good news (the Gospel) to every creature [of the whole [human race]. 16 He who believes [who adheres to and trusts in and relies on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] and is baptized will be saved [from the penalty of eternal death]; but he who does not believe [who does not adhere to and trust in and rely on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] will be condemned.
Or did He say be scared, bury your head in the sand, worry about being rejected, don’t tell them what is right and wrong, let them suffer? No, Jesus said you will actually be hated for your faith in Him.
Matthew 10:22 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake, but he who perseveres and endures to the end will be saved [from spiritual disease and death in the world to come].
If we try to be well liked who are we pleasing, and who are we serving? How will they know our God if we don’t tell them. Why are we sitting by and watching the enemy control those we love and why are we ignorant of the fact that by our quietness he is also controlling us?
I once heard someone share a vision God gave them. He and all those who were saved were standing on the edge of a cliff and those not saved were standing on the other side, across from the saved. In between was a wide abyss and looking down were flames from hell. Those who stood across from the saved were falling off the cliff into the burning flames. The acquaintances, family, and friends of the man who had the vision were yelling at him, “WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL US?? WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL US? WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL US?!“ Needless to say the man was distraught and knew from then on that he had to be bold about his faith!
