John 1:1 In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.
The way to get to know God starts by knowing the Word of God, because God is His Word. Knowing the truth about God is the only way to know God. We hear all kinds of things about God, that may or may not be true, but the only way to know the real truth is to take the time to know God for ourselves.
Can you imagine depending upon someone to get to know your future husband or wife for you? Can you imagine marrying your future husband or wife based upon someone else’s opinion of that person? Of course not that is ridiculous, but some do that with God. Sit in church letting someone else tell them who God is, what their opinion of God is and never take the time to know Him for themselves.
That same person when asked if they are going to heaven will hesitate because they don’t really know God but only know about God.
Know Him
Romans 12:2 tells us we can only know God and His perfect will as we renew our minds to be as His. To conform to His way, knowing His thoughts, and then by agreeing with them proving for ourselves His will is good and perfect.
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
Just as you want your friends to take the time to know you, God wants you to take the time to know Him. God wants to be the most important part of your life, as you are the most important to Him. James tells us we are His first fruits, the most important of His creations.
The time taken to know the One whom we want to spend our eternity with should be our priority. I have never regretted the time I have taken to know God, but I have only rejoiced in that I did.
Knowing God is in love with me, knowing His heart toward me, knowing I am on His mind all the time and that He is looking to do only good for me has given me peace I have never known before, assurance in knowing He is always there for me and will always take care of me. You can have that same assurance as you commit to Him and the time it takes to know Him.
