Jesus warned us that we should be careful what we believe, and for a good reason. He was talking about overcoming and the signs that would take place before He returned —how to be prepared to go with Him in the end. He said there would be false prophets. He said many will be deceived by them.
Matthew 24:24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive and lead astray, if possible, even the elect (God’s chosen ones). AMPC
Many believe what they hear rather than look in the Word for themselves. In so doing they are led astray. Believing a lie is living a lie and that lie will separate those who live it —from Jesus.
The Word of God is convicting and when heard, many walk away. Instead of the truth they have itchy ears —wanting to hear only what satisfies their flesh.
2 Timothy 3:3 For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) sound and wholesome instruction, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold, 4 And will turn aside from hearing the truth and wander off into myths and man-made fictions. But the truth really is what you want to hear. If you hear the truth, you will live the truth and the truth is what sets you free —and qualifies you as a disciple. The truth will set you free and it will prepare you for things to come.
The return of Jesus is at hand therefore we need to prepare for His return by hearing and knowing His Word so we can be a doer of it. Jesus is expecting that we live the truth not only for our eternity with Him, but as a witness for Him for the sake of the lost.
John 8:31 So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in Him, If you abide in My word [hold fast to My teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly My disciples. 32 And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free. AMPC
If we don't do the Word Jesus said we are rejecting Him. Either we are for Him or against Him. There is no middle ground. If we don't do the Word, then on that day He will say He didn't know us (Matthew 7:21-23).
Be a true disciple and help Jesus prepare for His return!
